Short-sleeved, belted dress made from printed kitenge fabric. Large area of embroidery around the neck in beige and blue thread, possibly silk; fabric printed with repeating motifs including portraits of three men and 'Achimota Chimota Golden Jubilee 1927-1977'; white fabric with repeating blue pattern and torch motifs in brown and yellow.

Description (Physical description)
Short-sleeved tailored dress, heavily embroidered in light blue and beige around round neckopening. The whole dress in printed in dark blue, black red brown and beige. The printed motifs consist of black semi-circles arranged in such a way resembling fish scales. The semicircles are decorated with dark blue motifs. Round medallions occur at regular intervals with portraits of several people.
The names of the people are written under the medallions. They comprise “REV. A.G. FRASER”, “J.E. KWEGYIR AGGREY” and “SIR FREDERICK GORDON GUGGISBERG”. The largest medaillion shows a black and white shield with written underneath: “ACHIMOTA GOLDEN JUBILEE 1927-1977”. A hand holding a torch and fruit are also part of the printed motifs. Context (Field collection)
Collected by Dawn Scott, née Stratton. She was a tutor in the Home Economics Department of the Teacher Training College. Lord Hemingford was the principal then. Achimota had three sections: University College, Teacher Training College and Achimota School. Janet Asare was Head of Home Economics in the School, and later became very involved with womens’ education in all West Africa and numerous committees. Dawn Scott always kept in touch with her.
