Description

Digging Stick - Long, heavy stick carved from dark brown wood. The ends have carved designs - at one end there is some simple cross-hatching and wavy lines. At the other end is a series of parallel lines carved lengthwise along the object.

Context (CMS Context)
(Bio) (Collector) Fredrick John Afford Bateman was a doctor in Alice Springs periodically between 1955 -1959, where he worked both in the hospital there and as a flying medic. This object is one of two digging sticks given to the museum. Richard Bateman, the collector’s son, bequested the second stick to the CUMAA Handling Collection.
