Description

Pair of earrings, of silver coloured metal. The centre of the earrings is an upside-down tear-drop shaped pendant, the upper half decorated with triangular points on which sit small silver balls. From the lower half of the pendant hang delecate chains endint in small punched metal pendants. Earring B is missing a chain.

Mrs. Barbara Spalding and her husband Michael worked as English teachers in Taiz, Yemen, from 1997-98 during which time she collected silver and talked to the men in the market silver shops.

Pair of long, heavy silver earrings. The main body is in the shape of an upside-down tear-drop, surrounded above by triangles, decorated with small silver balls. From the pointed end dangle numerous chains which terminate in punched out metal pendants.

Context (Analysis)
The accretions found on pieces in this collection, in addition to the appearance of the silver, suggest to Anita Herle that the metal used is a mixture of silver and other metals, possibly among them copper.
