Context (Acquisition Details)
Mrs. Barbara Spalding and her husband Michael worked as English teachers in Taiz, Yemen, from 1997-98 during which time she collected silver and talked to the men in the market silver shops.

Description (Physical description)
Belt. Two strands of red, cylindrical ?coral beads held apart vertically by long silver beads. From each of the silver beads dangle small jingles. In the centre of the belt is a square ornament, filigreed, with a red ?glass stone in the centre. Each end terminates in a silver triangular ornament. The belt fastens with a hook and eye, attached to lengths of silver chain.

Context (Analysis)
The accretions found on pieces in this collection, in addition to the appearance of the silver, suggest to Anita Herle that the metal used is a mixture of silver and other metals, possibly among them copper.

Description (Physical description)
Belt, comprising of a band of two strands of beads, possibly coral, joined vertically by silver beads. From the bottom of the vertical silver beads hang two loops, joined by a central silver round piece, and from this hangs two - three small silver balls. In the centre of the belt is a square piece of silver metal, with granulated decoration and a central red gem, possibly glass. Each end of the belt finishes with a triangular shaped piece with granulation, from these ends extend a simple linked chain with the belt fastening with a hook and eye.
