Description

Small, round silver box with lid. Both are completely covered in filigree decoration. The primary decoration is the repeating theme of coils of twisted silver wire, which are attached by small silver flattened globes, perhaps tacks. The lid has a silver boss at its centre.

Description (Physical description)
The accretions found on pieces in this collection, in addition to the appearance of the silver, suggest to Anita Herle that the metal used is a mixture of silver and other metals, possibly among them copper.

Mrs. Barbara Spalding and her husband Michael worked as English teachers in Taiz, Yemen, from 1997-98 during which time she collected silver and talked to the men in the market silver shops.
