Description

Round silver box with separate lid. The lid slots inside the box, rather than fitting over the main body of the container. The main design element along the body of the box is a row of small, raised flower shapes with silver balls at their centres. The main elements on the lid are interlocking horseshoe shapes. At the centre of the lid is a red ?coral or ?glass bead. The lid has a small circle of punctured holes in a small circle around the bead.

Description (Physical description)
The accretions found on pieces in this collection, in addition to the appearance of the silver, suggest to Anita Herle that the metal used is a mixture of silver and other metals, possibly among them copper.

Mrs. Barbara Spalding and her husband Michael worked as English teachers in Taiz, Yemen, from 1997-98 during which time she collected silver and talked to the men in the market silver shops.
