Description

Large silver box with lid, in the shape of a pointed oval. The lid is hinged, and is closed with a wire latch. A chain attached to the lid, perhaps for suspension. Both the lid and the box are heavily filigreed, and are also decorated filigreed half spheres. The base stands on two legs, one located at each end point of the oval.

‘The accretions found on pieces in this collection, in addition to the appearance of the silver, suggest to Anita Herle that the metal used is a mixture of silver and other metals, possibly among them copper.
