Description (Physical description)
Carved statue of Hindu deity Hanuman. The statue is made of a grey material which appears to be concrete or reconstituted stone. Hanuman is wearing elaborate ceremonial clothing and standing in an upright pose on an integral square stand. Lord Hanuman, or the monkey God, is the eleventh Rudra epithet of Lord Shiva. He is worshipped to vanquish all fears and tensions from one's life.

On display in the Maudslay Hall, from May 2012. Display label reads, 'Village Guardian / This concrete statue is a pecalang, or guardian figure, that would greet people at the boundary of a village or outside a temple or home. It depicts the Hindu monkey god Hanuman, a hero of the epic Ramayana, that is popular throughout India and Southeast Asia. Its pedestal is wrapped with the black and white sarong worn by men appointed village guardians, who are also called pecalang. / Bautubalan, Bali, Indonesia, late 20th century.
