Context (Production / use)
These certificates demonstrate the recipient’s active involvement in socialist forms of organisation, particularly that to do with the socialisation of the young. When reviewed in tandem with the medals awarded to the recipient's husband [2003.140 A-E], they give a picture of a couple integrated into the state system. In addition, the division of profiles (as indicated by their respective awards) between husband and wife illustrates traditional conceptions of the sexual division of labour in Hungarian society irrespective of state socialist ideals regarding gender equality.
