Context (Production / use)
This sort of plaque was often displayed in the workplace - but not at home. The Stakhanovite title was awarded to workers who achieved exceptional production rates within the yearly plan, specifically those who produced far beyond their production quotas. The title was borrowed from the name of a worker in the Soviet Union made famous by his production rate and eventually awarded the highest of civilian decorations, that of Hero of the Revolution. Stakhanovite, as a term, would become during the 1950s a phrase variously applied to over-production achievements throughout the Socialist Blok, This is a case of the Communist emphasis on economic achievement and the glorification of the industrial proletariat. This certificate indicates that Istvan Pokothyni (?) received the title of Stakhanovite for his work as a model-maker during February, March and April of 1955.
