Context (Production / use)
These three identical posters of Lenin exemplify the longevity of Lenin in terms of political correctness through the state socialist period. They also demonstrate the application of modern industrial replication techniques to graphic representation for mass consumption. A portrait of Lenin was obligatory in each office and/or function room of every public institution. Those members of society who sought to demonstrate their ideological commitment frequently framed graphics of Lenin and displayed on the wall at home. Many paintings of the period that depict home or office scenes correspondingly incorporate a portrait of Lenin within their scenes. Anita Herle notes: ‘shows mass culture/industrial reproduction. from: Ganz - MAVAG factory’. The marks of footprints on the back of a print indicate disregard. These were probably recovered fro the floor of the workplace at Ganz-MAVAG.
