It is a large, rectangular piece of heavy beige paper, with a floral border and two Hungarian communist emblems printed in colour down the left hand side. Both emblems include red stars, wheat wreaths and ribbons with the stripes of the Hungarian flag. 'Oklevel kiváló dolgozó' (which roughly translates as 'certificate...excellent worker') is printed on the certificate in red, and the recipient's name is handwritten in black ink on a line in the middle. There are some small tears in the edges of the paper, and there is some damage crease where the certificate has been folded down the middle.

Context (Production / use)
The Outstanding Worker award was possibly the most ubiquitous in the society, with some individuals winning this distinction many times. Interviews by AC indicate that some persons may have received this distinction as much or more for their political loyalty as for their actual work. From the ink stamp on the certificate, it is discernible that the recipient worked at the Budapest City Construction Company. The certificate combines classical socialist emblems (such as the two insignia at left) with traditional Hungarian folk designs (floral patterns at left behind insignia medallions and around edging). At bottom right corner of certificate border is name.
