Description

Metal and enamel glass pin badge depicting the emblem of the Ironworkers Union of Hungary. The badge is roughly circular, divided with a gold line down the middle; the left side is red and the right side is blue. There is a wheel close to the top, and the arms of two people shaking hands below. There is a white banner at the bottom, with '1877, 1903' written in gold. On the back, there is a safety-pin style fastening.

Context (Production / use)
This mass-produced pin was presented to Andre Czegledy (in 1992) during the course of his doctoral fieldwork by a union shop steward at Ganz-Hunslet, a joint venture company whose independent union was loosely affiliated to the Ironworkers Union. The pin was presented upon his being named in passing as an 'Honorary Member' of the independent Union, although no such formal status was confirmed.
