Context (Production / use)
This small vinyl record is a recording of the national anthem of the Soviet Union. It is a Hungarian edition, however, demonstrating the prominence of the Soviet anthems in tandem with local national anthems throughout the Socialist Bloc. HUNGAROTON was the Hungarian state recording and audio publishing company. This sort of record would have been played sequentially with the Hungarian anthem at May Day (May 1st) ceremonies and for senior delegations from the Soviet Union if the ceremonial necessity arose.

Description (Physical description)
A 45 r.p.m. vinyl record (A) in a cardboard sleeve (B), with a thin, clear plastic cover (C). It is a recording of the State Anthem of the Soviet Union. The record is black, with a yellow middle with black writing on it. The cardboard sleeve is white, with the Soviet coat of arms in the middle (a globe with a hammer and sickle and a red star above, surrounded by a wreath of wheat wrapped in red ribbon), and the Hungarian text 'A Szovjetunió Himnusza' in red below.
