The Z register originally suggest this fish-hook to be of Melanesian origin with a possible Solomon Islands provenance. This has now been identified as a Māori Pā Hakiwai from Aotearoa New Zealand and the record has been amended accordingly.

Description (Physical description)
Pā kahawai. Large composite trolling fish-hook, with a wooden shank, a pāua shell (Haliotis) inner, and a bone point with an inner barb. The point is lashed to the shank with a twisted flax cord (Phormium tenax). Plaited flax lashed to the eye with a very short snood of twisted flax.
