Description

Blue coat of machine woven silk in imitation of Quing dynasty dragon robe. Front opening with eye and loop fastening at top third, of blue and grey cord, with gold-coloured globular metal buttons. Loose mesh weave with intricate patterns woven in imitation of hand embroidery; endless knot and bat motifs in blue, red and green-brown cover upper two thirds and sleeves. Two opposing five-clawed dragons at centre front and reverse, couched in gold-coloured metallic thread, with green beads, possibly of jade, for eyes. Further gold dragons at rear neck, shoulders and sleeves. Lower third woven with wave motifs and stripes. Wide border of same fabric around front opening. Horse hoof-shaped cuffs lined with blue crepe silk and bordered top and bottom with ribbon of blue floral and geometric motifs.

Description (Physical description)
Blue silk coat with blue and gold cord fastening. Machine produced example based on Quing dynasty dragon robe, with most of what would have been embroidery, woven in. Five-clawed dragons are couched in metalic thread with green beads, ?jade, sewn on as eyes. Various auspicious symbols such as the red bat and the endless knot are incorporated into the design. The horse hoof cuffs have a band of blue floral embroidery.
