Purchased with assistance of the Art Fund and the Victoria and Albert Museum Purchase Fund.
Acquired by the donor's parents Betty and Cyril Rogers during their time in Papua New Guinea, 1978- 1985. Betty taught at the National Art School, part of the University New Guinea in Port Moresby, whilst Cyril worked in educational policy for the government and was later director of National Gallery in Zimbabwe. Purchased with assistance of the Art Fund and the Victoria and Albert Museum Purchase Fund.

(Bio) Martin Morububuna (born 1957) is from Kwebwaga Village, in the Trobriand Islands. After high school he joined the Creative Arts Centre, then attended Papua New Guinea’s National Arts School and began participating in group exhibitions; his first solo show followed there in 1977.

Morububuna’s early work comprised screenprints, woodcuts, and lithographs. Later he concentrated on painting, experimenting to see how Western art styles, including impressionism and cubism, could be used to interpret Papua New Guinean themes.
