Bought by actor and comedian Griff Rhys Jones during filming for BBC documentary 'Hidden Treasure of Australian Art, shown on BBC2, 25 Feb 2011. (The series also looked at N.E. India and W. Africa (Dogon). Purchased at Canopy Arts Gallery in Cairns. Obery Sambo was making a series of masks and when the donor expressed interest, he made one specially for him to illustrate the Uberi Kuberi myth, of a man who was eaten by a crocodile kept as a pet by his daughter.

Fibre crocodile mask, representing the Uberi Kuberi myth, with a crocodile tail and two faces, one above the other. Decorated with white feathers (?Torres Strait gull or reef heron), on small sticks. Condition: Good. One feathered stick broken off and detached.
