Description
Wooden sculpture by Sibusiso Maphumulo. Winged figure in a horizontal position with it's wings in an out-stretched curve. The circular face has a broad nose, full cheeks and narrow forehead. The figure wears sunglasses and has its hands closed in prayer at the chest. The soles of it's upturned feet are branded with an 'S' on the left foot and an 'M' on the right foot, representing the initials of the maker. The figure is decorated with pokerwork, creating incised black marks. Striped lines appear on the arms and upper back. The lower back and belly are decorated with parallel lines with small circles between them. The wings are rendered with a feathered design. Black hair is depicted on the head. A small metal hook is inserted in the centre of the back for hanging.
