Context (CMS Context)
' Arch' is pencilled on the catalogue card. See note in drawer: ' As of October 1982, this file seemed to be mixed up with no consistent division into archaeological/ethnological material. I have sorted it as best I can without yet having seen thepieces to which the cards refer and have in most cases pencilled ?arch or ?ethno on a card which I have transferred to the other section. If a card refers to a site which I know is ancient, or is labelled with an archaeological culture, or is one of an otherwise archaeological collection, or refers to something like an obsidian core, I have filed it in the archaeological section, though in some doubtful cases I have left it in its original place with a pencilled note. If an article is of a material like leather which is unlikely to have been preserved, I have put it in ethnology. The Gadow collection seems from his book to be mainly ethnological so doubtful cases have been put in ethnology. Items file under Ethno. and transferred to Arch. all numbered 1932 to 1948.'
