Context (Analysis)
W.H. Feilden donated nine axes from St Lucia, seven in 1889 (1889.158) and two in 1890 (1890.122), although one of the latter is described as a 'chisel'. All of these seem to have become disassociated from their original accession numbers and later re-accessioned with Z numbers. There are five axes (including one which might be the chisel) which have been identified as definitely from the Feilden collection (Z 2651 - Z 2654, Z 2654 being the possible chisel), three that are tentatively Feilden (Z 2655 - 2657), which leaves one of the nine unaccounted for. However, of the five definite and three likely axes, it is unclear which relate to 1889.158 or to 1890.122, with the possible exception of Z 2654.
