Context (Acquisition Details)
The Marlborough Robert Pryor collection entered the museum in multiple stages. The first donation was in 1912, given by Marlborough Pryor himself. The second was in 1921, following his death in April 1920, given by his son Walter Marlborough Pryor. The third was in 1983 and took the form of two deposits: one from his grandson, Robert Matthew Marlborough Pryor, and the other from Henry Kendall and Sons Ltd., the firm of South American merchants for whom Pryor worked after leaving Cambridge.

Description (Physical description)
Stirrup-spout vessel with a figure of a monkey. Short spout with an everted rim above a stirrup handle; small cylindrical form either side of the base of the spout; body shaped like a gourd, tapered towards one side; figure of a monkey scratching its head on one side of the stirrup handle which connects to its back; black fabric with burnished surface. One of the arms is broken and missing.
