Collected by Dr Alexander Atta Yaw Kyeremanten (1916-76) and donated by Miss Mary Desborough Cra'ster [aka Craister] (1957-1988), Assistant Curator, MAA.
These probably given to Mary Cra'ster when Dr Kyerematen was in Cambridge in early 1970s and was working to turn his 1966 Oxford doctoral thesis into a book. It is unclear if they were intended as a personal gift to her or the museum.

Nyame is the supreme god in Akan cosmology. Nyame dua (meaning 'tree of god') is a site where ritual and sacrifice is performed. The fowl, as a bird, is considered a powerful animal in Akan cosmology because its ability to occupy liminal spaces (land, sky, water).
