The associations of Henry H.M Beddington and Sir Ralph D.R. Moor who was part of the 1897 Benin Expedition. suggests this object was also taken from the palace of Oba Ovọnramwẹn Nọgbaisi in Benin City during the 1897 Benin Expedition.

Possibly donated by Henry Herbert Melville Beddington (1863 - 1929) who also gave eight Benin pieces to the British Museum in 1921 collected by Sir Ralph Denham Rayment Moor (1860- 1909), who was part of the 1897 Benin Expedition.
This association suggests this object was also taken in the 1897 Benin Expedition.
