Description
Ahianmwẹ-Ọrọ. A staff of office surmounted the bird of prophecy, depicted as an ibis with outstretched wings, used as an idiophone by chiefs during the Oro festival, (Ugie Oro), when the beak is struck to make a sound. The cylindrical shaft is decorated top and bottom with collars of double rope plait and guilloche pattern respectively.

Context (Acquisition Details)
The Accession Registers record E 1902.428- 461 (AR 1902.229-275) as a donation of Benin objects by Webster.
The Eighteenth Annual Report of the Antiquarian Committee to the Senate (April 23, 1903) also records that 'A gap in the collections of the Museum has been filled by a series of twenty-two fine bronzes from Benin, which Mr W. D. Webster has generously presented to the University'.

In January 2017, Prof. Marcos Martinon-Torres and Agnese Benzonelli, UCL Institute of Archaeology, tested this idno using a portable XRF as part of a programme of base metal analysis of Benin material. Results were inconclusive
