Description

Bottle and lid made from skin and hide. Globular bottle with a long, narrow neck and a rounded base; decorated with strips of hide and hair in contrasting colours. Patches of hair missing; used to store galena or antimony for cosmetic use.

Context (Acquisition Details)
Some of the Tremearne Collection was deposited in 1908 (D 1908.9-37) and a more substantial collection in 1910. (D 1910.1-23 and D 1910.29-42). These were then donated in 1920, along with a supplementary collection by Mrs A.J.N.Tremearne, wife of the late collector; E 1920.81-358. There was also a later donation of objects in 1954, 1954.348-361.
The 1910 Deposit Register gives 2 annotated images of the items on display.
