Description (CMS Description)
Brass ring, with Maltese cross attached to it. The cross consists of the outline of a Maltese cross in brass cast; the inner surface is vacant so the cross is not a solid one. The cross is decorated with incised dots. The ring has three raised lines. The Maltese cross could be a sign of Portuguese influence. Not cast too far away from this area, because the rings are ubiquitous. Worn by people of rank and authority, a prestige item. Information provided by Dr Ohioma Pogoson, Honorary Curator of the Museum of the Institute for African Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. November 2012.
