Catalogue card reads [handwritten in blue pen:] 'Z 29777 MELANESIA FIJI. A necklace of sperm whale teeth (29 teeth). The teeth are short (about 6 cm long), polished, tapering to a point. d. C.A. Gordon 23/6/39. 'This stuff was collected in 1870s when Von Hugel was also in Fiji". A small round red sticker pasted on the card.

Small necklace (waseisei) formed of 27 tusks carved from whale teeth, pierced and the top and strung on a cord of ?vegetable fibre. The teeth are curving upwards and tapering. They are a light cream colour at the front and at the back. Two teeth have become un-strung and are now kept with the object, in a separate bag.
