Description (CMS Description)
Necklace (waseisei) formed of 27 tusks carved from whale teeth, pierced and the top and strung on a cord of 2-ply twisted coir. The teeth are curving upwards and tapering. The necklace has been broken into several parts: one formed of 16 tusks strung on cord, another of 8 tusks strung on cord and 3 unstrung tusks. The tip of 10 tusks is chipped. The base colour of the tusk is grey but they are now engrained with dirt at the front and back.
