Necklace (waseisei) composed of tusks carved from strips of sperm whale tooth, 27 in total. Each tusk is pierced at the top and strung on a cord of vegetable fibre (?hibiscus), the space between each tusk being further wrapped with a thin cord of 3-ply plaited coir. At one end, the cord of dark-dyed 2-ply twisted hibiscus is knotted twice. At the other end, some hibiscus fibre of a much lighter colour have been cut about two cms after the last tusk. The tip of one of the tusks is severely chipped. The surface is a light cream colour at the front and an intense honey colour at the back.
