Labels & inscriptions: A small cream label with serrated edges and decorative blue border reads [handwritten in brown ink :] 'A. H. G X 891' and [added in black ink:] 'No No No Loc'. 'Z 30023' inscribed in black ink inside the bag. A large cream label attached to the object reads on one side [handwritten in black ink:] 'FIJI Receptacle for carrying some object long and thin. Not registered 20/5/38' and added in black ink:] 'Z 30023'. On the other side: 'Label, - A. H. G. X 891possibly signifies Sir A. H. Gordon afterwards Lord Stanmore, Governor of Fiji 1875 and seq: X = Baron von Hugel's code index number for the locality of Fiji. The No No No Loc is cryptic and the key is not known by F. J. H. Ho. Kr. 20/5/38'.

Description (CMS Description)
Very long and thin oblong bag. The inside plaited from strips of pandanus forming a straight grid. The outside plaited from thinner strips of natural, red-dyed and black-dyed ?pandanus leaf, forming alternating bands of red/black and white/black. Flap-top. The edge of the flap top and of the top of the bag have a seam of twisted black vegetable fibre to which are attached small length of red wool.
