Description (CMS Description)
Very large priest's dish for yaqona carved from a solid piece of vesi wood. The platter is circular and very shallow. It is provided with a flat lip, about 2.8 cm thick, carved with three rows of zigzags. The inside of the dish has a light orange patina in places. The dish rest on a carved pedestal (12 cm high) formed of two rectangular legs supported by a ring-shaped base. Two cords of 3-ply plaited coir are tied around one of the rectangular legs. One is thinner and darker than the other. A few holes left by insect damage are visible on the pedestal base and inside the dish. A few specks of white paint underneath the dish. The lip is chipped in several places. A hairline cracks runs from the lip towards the centre of the dish (about 8.5 cm long).
