Description (CMS Description)
Earplug carved from whale tooth shaped like a cotton reel with three strings of hibiscus[?] fibre closely threaded with small white glass beads. Each end of the earplug is oval in shape; two grooves have been carved near the top and bottom, to which the lengths of beads have been tied, leaving a globular central section. One length of beads has been tied around the top groove so that two strands of beads hang from each side of the earplug. The other length of beads has been tied around the bottom groove with a small piece of string so that only one strand of beads hangs from the earplug (the length of beads may have broken at some stage). 'Z. 2719 B' and '1923.H117.' inscribed in black ink on one end. 'WO[rest illegible]' also inscribed on the same end.
