Description (CMS Description)
Headrest carved from a solid piece of wood. The bar is circular in section (54 cm long x 4 cm diameter). At each end of the bar, a wooden leg provided with two feet is fitted to the holes pierced underneath the bar with a lashing of 3-ply plaited coir. The top of the leg has been cut to match the curve of the bar. The legs are arched and the feet are flat and oval at one end and almost circular at the other end. The bar is decorated with longitudinal bands of zigzag in low relief. Two 'dents' are visible on the side of the bar - they may have been prior attempts to pierce the attachment holes for the legs. The headrest is sturdy but the lashing is quite loose, making the legs dangle from the object. Some white residue visible inside some of the carved triangles.
