It is inserted into the end of the shank. The point is maintained in place by a lashing of 3-ply plaited coir forming diamond patterns. The top of the shank is carved with a knob to which is attached a thick cord of 3-ply plaited coir securing in place a length of 3-ply plaited and twisted coir cord. The end of the cord is coiled (still maintained in shape by a thin piece of metal thread) and terminates in a knot. A large crack in the shank, running vertically from the knob down (about 15 cm). Several medium sized cracks along the shank, especially where the wood curves.
