Description (CMS Description)
Very large fish-hook of wood in two pieces. The shank is made from a thick piece of curved dark wood. The point is also made of wood and curves inwards almost horizontally. It is inserted into the end of the shank. The point is maintained in place by a lashing of 3-ply plaited coir forming diamond patterns. The top of the shank is carved with a knob to which is attached a thick cord of 3-ply plaited coir securing in place a length of 3-ply plaited and twisted coir cord. The end of the cord is coiled (still maintained in shape by a thin piece of metal thread) and terminates in a knot. A large crack in the shank, running vertically from the knob down (about 15 cm). Several medium sized cracks along the shank, especially where the wood curves.
