Description (CMS Description)
Necklace (waseisei) formed of 24 tusks carved from whale teeth, pierced and the top and strung on a cord of 3-ply plaited coir. An additional length of 3-ply plaited coir is woven around the cord and between the top of the tusks, forming a cross pattern at the back. The tusks are very long, curving upwards and tapering. The tip of the thirteenth tusk from the left is chipped The tusks are of a light honey colour at the front with a more intense shade of honey at the back. 'Z. 2739' and '1923.H128.' inscribed in black ink on the last tusk from the left.
