Necklace of whales teeth.

Necklace (sisi) formed of 11 large whale teeth, pierced at the top and strung on a cord formed of two strands of 3-ply plaited coir. Additional lengths of barkcloth (cream-coloured) and pandanus fibre (dyed black) are woven around the coir cord and between the top of the teeth. Five teeth are pierced at the tip (from left: no 3, 7, 8, 9, 11). No 2 from the left is split at the tip. They are cream colour at the front and a slightly darker shade of cream at the back. Very heavy. The binding is very weak. The lengths of pandanus fibre is brittle and shedding. 'Z. 2734' and '1923 H 126.' inscribed in black ink on the first tooth from the right.
