Barkcloth beater carved from a solid piece of medium-brown wood. The beater is rectangular in section with a pyramidal top. Each side shows a different pattern: 1) 9 longitudinal lines; 2) 8 longitudinal lines; 3) 9 longitudinal lines; 4) rectangular panels of varying sizes carved with bands of zigzags, concentric semi-circles and bands of triangle. Each corner of the beater is carved with a longitudinal band of zigzags. There is a carved collar marking the transition between the beater and the handle. On the three sides carved with longitudinal grooves, the collar is carved with a large serrated triangle and a chevron containing carved triangles. On the decorated side of the beater, the collar is left un-decorated. Underneath the collar, on the three grooved sides, there is a carved design formed of a concentric circle with four pairs of legs. The handle is circular in section with a slightly convex butt. It is carved with horizontal bands of little squares interrupted by two undecorated vertical bands. 'Z. 3822' and '1923.H81.' inscribed in white ink on the handle. 'Z. 3822' inscribed in white ink on the butt.
