Description
Large copper alloy processional cross. Consists of a tapering handle with two rounded side attachments, and a diamond-shaped head. Head features designs cut in using an ajouré technique, with clusters of four smaller crosses projecting at three points. Carried by priests of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Catalogue card: 'Bronze (or copper) cross, with socket at base, presumably to hold a long shaft for carrying. The arms of the cross are broad and flat, carved ajouré with cable and chequer pattern, and terminating in Maltese cross-shaped projections.'
