Events

Context (Production / use)
This lock is a qulida hagg mirwah 'arus, "a lock belonging to a bridal chamber" and is put on the outside of the bridal chamber but locked only on the bridal night. When the attendants etc have left, convention demands that the groom jump up at once and shoot the bolt on the inner side. Sometimes the name of the house is carved on the lock. It is unclear from the card and the Annual Report whether the item was collected for and bought on behalf of the Museum by Sergeant.
