Description
Charm - Coiled and dried embryo of mangrove, painted red. Used as tabu sign (gelar) on yam gardens or individuals. Note on catalogue card: "A sign of tbau ('gelar') hung in gardens like the 'pagi' . At times the old men would order it to be worn, in which case the wearer might not eat yams, though he might eat 'ketai' yams, sweet potatoes ('nuri') and other food. The restriction lasted until the arrival of the next Nor-west ('koki') season set. It was used by the Komet-le."
