Description
Earring - Pair of ear ornaments. Rosette with emerald beetle wings, elytra of buprestis, at centre surrounded encircled by white croix seeds or "Job's tears" with long red goat's hair fringe. Reverse has concave fibrous disc attached to a boar's tusk decorated with red cane and yellow orchid stem. "Ear Ornament for dancing, Angami Naga" on label. Condition: Cord frayed at reverse. Some croix seeds missing.; Good

The Annual Report (1896) describes the collection (which this object is a part of) as, 'A set of weapons, articles of dress, ornaments, &c., from the Nagas, of Assam, presented by Mrs. Howell, contains a number of beautiful objects, which are quite new to the Museum. The collection was made by her son, A. A. Howell, Esq., Deputy Commissioner, I. C. S.' (Annual Report 1896, pp. 4).
