Description (Physical description)
Copper alloy, probably bronze, figure of the Hindu deity Shiva, destroying Tripurasura. He is depicted standing with one foot on the prostrate figure of Tripurasura, with the other foot up in the air, bent at the knee. He has four arms; the p. back right holding a double drum and a lotus flower. There is an arch of flames around the back of the figure, which attach to the rectangular pedestal the figure is standing upon. There are two attendants positioned on the pedestal on either side of Shiva.

Lecture blub noted 'Shiva in the form of Nataraja or the cosmic dancer, is one of India’s most iconic images. As a Hindu deity, the depiction of Nataraja is full of symbolism and deeper context. In this talk, Monisha Bharadwaj, an Indian historian and professionally trained Bharata Natyam dancer, will talk about the various meanings of the dancing Shiva concept and will lead you through a short workshop on the hand gestures that you see in this representation.'
