Bullroarer. Narrow palm wood splint with roughly squared off pierced end and pointed tip. Painted with black, white and red bands. Rough 6 stranded twine string tied through piercing. White paint falling off, string fraying. Original accession notes: " (Cat. Add.: Acquired October 1927, price = scrap of tobacco) Scrap of tobacco from child's (novice). KALENDANGA = general word for bull-roarer. Painted bull-roarer - was asked to be specially careful that women should not see this but could not find reason for the paint. Used in MENDAS ceremony." Poor
