Description

Helmet - Man's war helmet of rattan, decorated with bands of cowrie shells and covered with old Chinese saucer on top. The front of the helmet, at the edges, is protected by a strip of brass. Note on catalogue card: " These helmets are obsolescent, and will probably unobtainable in a few years time".

Description (CMS Description)
Ceramic bowl (not saucer) is tied to the rattan helmet with string. Bowl decorated in blue and white, with a section cutout/ missing at one side and the plain pith strip and the cowrie decorated pith strip run over the peak of the helmet and under the bowl. It may be alter addition. Broken and repaired in the past, ?locally
