Context (CMS Context)
Collected by: Gardiner.Professor.Stanley; Research: Examination of artefact By Roth.G.K On - According to information given in detail in " Canoes of Oceania" , (Vol.1 by James Hornell, pp.304 ff.) This is a carefully made, accurate model of a Fijian double canoe, Ndrua. The proportions of the longer hull, the yard and the mast are good; and other features of a double canoe are all represented. But the platform is too short in length compared with its breadth; the top section of the shaft is too long compared with its mast; and the sail should be in sections fastened together, not ina single piece. There should also be more than one steering paddle, sculling oar, and baler
