Artefact collected by John Clarke, through the generosity of the Crowther-Beynon Fund; Used for making offerings; Collected by: Clarke.John in 1987: Puja set of copper with silver decoration. By Ishey Namgyal and Meme le Phuntzong (Phuntzong Spalzang at 87 the oldest and most skilled craftsman, known honorifically as Meme le meaning respected grandfather). Consists of: Base plate or dish 'storjung', Stand 'kang sum', Small offering dish 'pathap', Pouring vessel with spout and handle 'mangu' and Serving dish 'chab thur'. This set of vessels is used by both lay people and monks for making offerings to the six types of inhabitants of the six worlds within samsara (the Buddhist wheel of transmigration). Tsampa is rolled into balls and placed in the small dish on the copper stand. Water or tea is then poured over this offering while prayers are simultaneously said for the welfare of all beings. At the end these offerings are thrown away. The full set of vessels is called a 'torchas' set
