Context (CMS Context)
Probably struck during the British occupation of Sumatra; Collected by: Evans.I.H.N in : A Malay round coin with type of cock, which may be the lineal descendant of the tin pieces in shape of cocks, made in Pahang and which were probably money. This one was given to me by Ivor H Evans.
(Bib) For Malay currency see Sir R.C.Temple' s book with fine illustrations.
'Accompanied by a note which read "These labels are gibberish. It s not clear from the card whether the copper coin comes from Sumatra or Malaya. AS for the tin ones duit is one unit and petis another and [?] un Pesak [spelling unclear] duit = 1 petis. These are therefore withdrawn from exhibition." R.Hand 17/11/2000
