Description
Musical instrument, a frame rattle made from the midrib of a plantain leaf. Oblique cuts in sequence along the rib in an anterio-posterior direction liberate a number of tongues of material hanging freely from the bulk of the rib when the rib is held in a horizontal position by the operator. On drawing the hand over the hanging tongues of material from the base towards the tip, each rattle strikes in turn the main body of the rib.
